It took a minute to sink in, but he’s absolutely right. You can have the most amazing product, but if it doesn’t solve a real problem or meet a need, then people simply don’t care enough to give you their hard earned money.

I got to thinking about who our customers are at Swaayed; bloggers, social media enthusiasts, YouTubers, etc… the content creator class. How can we create a product that changes their lives?

Here’s are the three ways we can impact their lives…

Help create content

Help reach more people

Help monetize their content

Saving time during the content creation process, and getting more eyes on your content is great, but the thing that changes their life the most is increasing their income. With enough money, they can hire people to help create content or they can spend some money on promoting their stuff. At the end of the day, the biggest impact we can have on an influencer’s life is improving their standard of living.

So that’s where we’re going to focus our product at Swaayed. Making it the best monetization tool, because that’s where I think we can bring the most value to our influencers.

Are you focusing on the right thing?

A lot of bloggers and content creators focus too heavily on creating content and growing their audience, and not enough on monetization. They assume that once they have enough followers or readers, it’ll be easy to make money.  If this is your approach, you’re probably going about this the wrong way.

What you want to do is figure out how to make money early on, with a small audience. Once you have that figured out, you can use that money to grow your audience much quicker.

Are you just giving away free samples?

If you’re a blogger or content creator, and you’re not currently making any money, you need to take a hard look at your product. Is your product your content? If so, are you selling your product or are you just giving away free samples? What I mean by that is, are you running ads, or selling sponsorships or making money from a subscription like Patreon, or are you just putting content out there thinking people will toss money in your direction once you hit a million subs?

If you’re not trying to monetize even a small audience, then you’re just giving away samples. If you are selling, but nobody is clicking on your ads or supporting you on Patreon, perhaps your product isn’t creating enough value. Is your content truly impacting people’s lives?

Even if you only have 1,000 readers a month, you should be selling them your product. If you can convert 5% of 1,000 people, you can convert 5% of 1,000,000 people. If you can’t get 1% of 1,000 people to give you their money, you won’t get 1% of 1,000,000 people either.

So stop focusing so hard on growing your audience, and spend a little time evaluating your product and ensure you can convert the audience you have.
